She knew it was going to be more than a second because Kirk had to make sure everything in his cabin was at right angles before he left; she was a naturally tidy person herself but she couldn't hold a candle to his level of organization. It was cute, but sometimes she wished he could be a little more spontaneous. You don't have to look before you leap every time.
