In the spirit of your stupid honesty rule, I punched Mozenrath and in the circumstances, I'm not sorry - I was affected, anyway, so it wasn't really me. On a directly relevant note, do you have any particularly strong future space liquor?

I hope I didn't actually fracture anything, but I'm not apologizing. Let's just draw a curtain over the last couple days and get on with our lives.

She just glared at him suspiciously for a few moments.

"We're fine. Everything's fine. I guess."

He really didn't have an ulterior motive for asking, mostly because the most he had to gain was the chance to shoot Tim and if he never got to shoot him, then Kirk supposed that he'd live.

"That sounds really convincing." He threw the cap and barely missed a cup.

She took a shot anyway, throwing the cap so that it hit him in the face again and landed in a glass on the way down. Huh.

"It's not like I've got a basis for comparison. I dunno how it's supposed to be right now."

"I imagine if you're happy with him and he's happy with you, everything's going alright." Not that he really knew what a long term relationship was supposed to be like either if you didn't count his marriage to Enterprise. "And not bored. I hear that's a good thing too."

"Yeah."

Abruptly, it felt like a bad idea to keep trying to stand upright and she sank down to her knees at the side of the coffee table.

"I don't know. I like him, but..." That thought spiralled off hopelessly. "I don't know. Stuff. It's not him. Not his fault."

Concerned, Jim knelt down beside her. He would guess that he was tipsy at best, and that she was reaching that wall between feeling fine and passing out. "I have a great couch. If you want to lie down."

"No." Inexplicably, she laughed. "I like it here." It had been an age since she'd gotten this drunk this fast and she'd sort of forgotten that more-than-tipsiness made her all giggly and stupid. She sneaked the one remaining shot on her side before he could stop her, then pushed the glasses out of the way before laying her head down on the tabletop.

Jim snorted at her, and then sighed a moment later as he gave her a pat to the head. "Right, keep talking about Tim though. And why it isn't his fault." He figured he'd just let her talk until she fell asleep and then move her somewhere better.

"It's not his fault," she said, redundantly. "It's just....I dunno, it's fun, I like him, but sometimes it feels like he takes me for granted? And me. I do that as well. And I know he's just gonna go home when Sylar graduates and he'll forget me so what's the point?"

'Giggly and stupid' could easily drop into 'melancholy' when pushed.

Kirk could hardly assure her that was never going to happen, as he had gone home and forgotten her once upon a time. But other people left and came back without having memory problems, so who knew.

"First of all, Sylar's never going to graduate, so you two will have many, many years here together," he told her as he moved his fingers through her hair, trying to be comforting. "And even if he does? Who said Tim is going to leave. He's a weird kid. He probably likes it here."

She leaned her head into his hand thoughtlessly. "It's not like he even has a reason to stay now. He came to get things fixed up with Batman but then he found out he didn't need to, so. He could just go home whenever."

"So he isn't bound here. He's here by free will, which means that you are probably a factor in that."

Shego just mumbled something against the tabletop for a few moments.

"Am I? I dunno. Feels like I do all the work. Mze..." She mumbled something that sounded like it might have been 'Mozenrath' if she'd been soberer. "S'right. I am so much hotter than he is. I do d'serve better."

Kirk laughed a little bit. He wasn't sure who he was talking about but he was just going to assume it was Tim. "You are hotter than a skinny little dork. But he's also a good kid."

"You're so not helping," she said to the table. "He doesn't...I...God, why does this have to be so complicated? I never did any of this crap at home. I'd always kinda thought that if I had sex with anybody I might set them on fire by mistake."

That made Kirk laugh again, because he believed that she actually believed that and that was just ridiculous. And maybe something she should've informed him of the first time they had sex. Just in case. "I think this means you're growing up and stuff. And thank you for not setting me on fire."

She glowered at him, but there was way too much of her hair in the way for him to see her do it. "This doesn't have anything to do with growing up. I was grown up without sex. This is just...I dunno, making my life needlessly complicated."

"Needlessly complicated is a part of growing up," Kirk pointed out. "You're the one who picked a superhero to have a relationship with."

She didn't lift her head, but summoned enough motor control to raise one hand and give him the finger.

"Still not helping."

"You're asleep on my coffee table. In case you weren't aware," Kirk said with a laugh. "Would you like help to the couch?"

"No. I'm not asleep." It seemed like a nice idea, but she wasn't passing out on Kirk's coffee table or his couch for love nor money. She braced her hands on the edge, slowly hauling herself up.

"So you've got absolutely nothing useful for me. Just 'it's a part of growing up'? Which is just not true. Puberty is a part of growing up. This is just...stupid and annoying."

"What do you want me to say? Break up with him and be a hermit? It's not any better on the other side of a relationship once you have one. So if you want to just complain more and hang out with me all the time like a winner, then go ahead and dump him."

"I don't know what I want you to - oh, whatever." Giggly-drunk had collapsed into sullen-drunk and was now heading towards mean-fighty-drunk. "It's not as if you'd know anything about anything," and then things sort of dissolved into a lot of disquieted muttering about Kirk's love life as she was picking her way over to the door.

Kirk maybe understood half of what she was muttering about, but he got the gist of it but he didn't feel like talking about McCoy, as that was his only experience with crap like this, with her ever, so he just let it go. He really didn't want to get in the middle of her and Tim either.

He watched her stumble for a moment before heaving a silent sigh and going after her. "Where are you even going?"

"My room, jerk. It's like five feet that way." She gestured with her chin, which probably wasn't a good idea because it made the whole world spin that direction for a moment, but she righted herself eventually and got close enough to the door to hit the opening mechanism.
