I know that sounds like I'm trying to blow you off, it's just...it's like you step in a puddle, and it's not a big deal, and it gets a little bit deeper and that's not a big deal either, and then a few months later you realize you need to get out of the puddle before you actually drown.

It feels like there should be a metaphor that says that better.

Wha - no. Nothing like that. It was just...the way he and I are totally dysfunctional didn't exactly complement each other. That's the simplified version.

I'll admit I never made a point to really know much about your relationship with him, but I had the impression you were happy.

I was. But whenever we had a fight, whenever anything happened - I didn't forgive and forget. I just forgot. That's how I stayed happy. And none of it seemed like a dealbreaker individually, but cumulatively....we're back to puddles.
