In the spirit of your stupid honesty rule, I punched Mozenrath and in the circumstances, I'm not sorry - I was affected, anyway, so it wasn't really me. On a directly relevant note, do you have any particularly strong future space liquor?

I hope I didn't actually fracture anything, but I'm not apologizing. Let's just draw a curtain over the last couple days and get on with our lives.

Sometimes he forgot how lame she used to be, okay. Give a man a break. "Then I will teach you something great," he answered as he moved to his feet. He finished off what was left in his glass and went to fetch a few more. It wouldn't be a full rack for either of them but it would work fine. He figure she'd pass out within two rounds anyway.

"Here," he handed her the cap from the whiskey bottle while taking said bottle away from her. But only so he could pour it into the glasses he had set up on either end of his coffee table. "It works better with ping pong balls but I don't have any. Basically, you throw that and try and get into one of the glasses on my side. If you get it in, I have to drink. And vice versa."

Shego had apparently not missed much while not partying in college. She got up off the sofa with minor difficulty, fidgeting with the cap.

"That's the dumbest thing I ever heard." And then she flicked the cap into the furthest glass on the table with what looked like effortless skill in the face of intoxication but was actually mostly luck.

"It's better than chugging whiskey like a redneck." Kirk might have overestimated how much she'd had to drink so far. But he took his drink like a man and tossed it back at one of her glasses, without putting much thought into it, so it bounced off the rim of one.

"I dunno that that's true." She took her turn and missed pretty dramatically. "Isn't this kind of antiquated in space college? However many years, and you guys didn't come up with anything better?"

"We don't knock with something that works." As though to prove it, he sank a shot easily. "Plus, I grew up in Iowa."

She picked up the glass, plucked the cap out of it and emptied it in one go, deliberately missing the next throw because it was nice whiskey and she didn't feel Kirk deserved any of it. "And this is all you had to do for fun besides, what, cow-tipping and maybe impregnating people?"

"And committing a slew of misdemeanors." Jim shrugged a little bit. He gave her another drink just to keep her happy and so she wouldn't suspect he only suggested the game to control how much she got. He was going to try to keep her from throwing up if at all possible. "If you can still walk later, we can go steal someone's spark plugs."

At the back of her mind, she was starting to suspect that this was exactly Kirk's plan. Her next shot was on target completely by accident.

"No thanks. I don't think either of us need to relive your criminal past. And who'd have spark plugs anyways?"

"The engine room, probably," Jim answered with a smirk as he took his drink. His next shot was carelessly thrown and it easily missed. "How are you and Tim doing? Like really."

She looked sullen for a moment, but it faded back into drunken irritation quickly.

"We're both getting over being gay. Now's not a good time to ask." She flicked the cap at Kirk's forehead.

It hit him in the head but it wasn't like it really hurt. He held on to it for a moment to talk to her. "Besides the traumatizing flood, which we both know will not really be bothering you in about a week. Everything good?"

"......Are you taking advantage of the fact I'm kinda drunk to talk to me about this? That's pretty low, Kirk."

"No, I'm asking about your life like a normal friend and the fact that you're drunk makes it more likely that you'll miss if you try to punch me."

She just glared at him suspiciously for a few moments.

"We're fine. Everything's fine. I guess."

He really didn't have an ulterior motive for asking, mostly because the most he had to gain was the chance to shoot Tim and if he never got to shoot him, then Kirk supposed that he'd live.

"That sounds really convincing." He threw the cap and barely missed a cup.

She took a shot anyway, throwing the cap so that it hit him in the face again and landed in a glass on the way down. Huh.

"It's not like I've got a basis for comparison. I dunno how it's supposed to be right now."

"I imagine if you're happy with him and he's happy with you, everything's going alright." Not that he really knew what a long term relationship was supposed to be like either if you didn't count his marriage to Enterprise. "And not bored. I hear that's a good thing too."

"Yeah."

Abruptly, it felt like a bad idea to keep trying to stand upright and she sank down to her knees at the side of the coffee table.

"I don't know. I like him, but..." That thought spiralled off hopelessly. "I don't know. Stuff. It's not him. Not his fault."

Concerned, Jim knelt down beside her. He would guess that he was tipsy at best, and that she was reaching that wall between feeling fine and passing out. "I have a great couch. If you want to lie down."

"No." Inexplicably, she laughed. "I like it here." It had been an age since she'd gotten this drunk this fast and she'd sort of forgotten that more-than-tipsiness made her all giggly and stupid. She sneaked the one remaining shot on her side before he could stop her, then pushed the glasses out of the way before laying her head down on the tabletop.

Jim snorted at her, and then sighed a moment later as he gave her a pat to the head. "Right, keep talking about Tim though. And why it isn't his fault." He figured he'd just let her talk until she fell asleep and then move her somewhere better.

"It's not his fault," she said, redundantly. "It's just....I dunno, it's fun, I like him, but sometimes it feels like he takes me for granted? And me. I do that as well. And I know he's just gonna go home when Sylar graduates and he'll forget me so what's the point?"

'Giggly and stupid' could easily drop into 'melancholy' when pushed.

Kirk could hardly assure her that was never going to happen, as he had gone home and forgotten her once upon a time. But other people left and came back without having memory problems, so who knew.

"First of all, Sylar's never going to graduate, so you two will have many, many years here together," he told her as he moved his fingers through her hair, trying to be comforting. "And even if he does? Who said Tim is going to leave. He's a weird kid. He probably likes it here."

She leaned her head into his hand thoughtlessly. "It's not like he even has a reason to stay now. He came to get things fixed up with Batman but then he found out he didn't need to, so. He could just go home whenever."

"So he isn't bound here. He's here by free will, which means that you are probably a factor in that."
