Barcaza: Open Spam

[Sheridan, quartermaster of The Slayer and frequent enough visitor to Barcaza to be recognized, strolled into the tavern at dusk. She'd had a hard day haggling over powder and ammunition for the girls' guns and the ship's cannons - the sort of 'haggling' where the supplier got to choose between a heavy discount and a lost finger or two - and having fulfilled her Captain's orders she felt qualified to relax a while. She sat down at the end of the bar and gestured for a drink.]

Trade. [Tim is perfectly willing to accept that she's good company. She looks like good company to him.] Spices from India, largely, sometimes silks. I'm sure I could find some extra, if you're interested. [This is totally a suave thing to do, right, and he has an extra suave smile for her. He has no idea what he's doing.)]

[She just laughs.] I'm a woman, so my interest is easily bought with pretty things. It's your first time here, hm?

Second. [He lifts a hand to order a drink.] But I couldn't much enjoy myself, last time. [And when he gets his glass, he lifts it toward her for a toast.] To Barcaza. And pretty things.

[She just stares at him for a second.]

Don't understand sarcasm much, do you? Or the kind of woman who makes a living in these waters, for that matter. Never mind, you'll learn.

[She grabs his wrist and tilts it against her mouth, draining the glass in his hand and licking a stray drop off his inner wrist before downing her own shot.] To Barcaza.

[peektuttut]

Oh. [His face starts to fall, because that definitely went right over his head and now he feels like an idiot, but hey she's drinking his drink and sh is holding his hand. Well, wrist. But it's close enough and he actually turns red when she licks his wrist.]

I can't say I'm not looking forward to learning.

[gotgreenmagic]

That's the spirit. [She waves down a member of the bar staff to refill their glasses.] Got a name, second-timer?

[peektuttut]

Timothy Drake. [He nods his thank yous to the bartender, and takes a quick drink before she can steal his again.] And yours, madam?

[gotgreenmagic]

[She laughs out loud, taking a healthy sip of her rum.]

'Madam', good Christ. I haven't been 'madam' since the last time I got arrested. [A flash of a grin.] I'm Sheridan. You can call me Sherry though, since I like your legs.

[peektuttut]

My-- [He looks down at his legs, because that is not a compliment he's ever hear before, and did she say arrested? She said arrested, didn't she.]

Er - Sherry, then. It's a pleasure to meet you.

[gotgreenmagic]

And you, Timothy. [She leans forward, propping her elbows on the bar.] Don't suppose I need to much expound on what I do for work.

[peektuttut]

You make it very difficult for fellows like me to do work, I imagine. I hope if we ever meet at sea, you'll take pity on me.

Oh, The Slayer's an easygoing crew, Master Drake. We've not yet sunk a ship which didn't go out of her way to prove herself worth the trouble.

[peektuttut]

The Slayer. Not exactly the name to back your claim up.

[gotgreenmagic]

[She raises an eyebrow.] You're begrudging a pirate crew a little embellishment, now? We'd have called it The Actually Fairly Reasonable Sort Of Person but we didn't have enough paint.

[peektuttut]

[He ducks his head, mouth turning up at the corners.] It was a joke. But a name like that would certainly set you apart.

[gotgreenmagic]

Not in any way I'd enjoy. And where's your berth, hm?

[peektuttut]

The Resolute. I'm not going to have to worry about being followed back, am I? [But he's smiling. Because Tim is a failure.]

[gotgreenmagic]

[She smirks.] I've yet to board a ship that's not at sea. [She throws back what's left in her glass.] Not drawing enough of a wage to get a room on land for the duration?

[peektuttut]

[He wrinkles his nose for a moment before taking another drink.] I'm still something of a junior member with the company. [And he'll just polish off that drink and take a moment to make sure he doesn't cough.] I'd rather sleep aboard, and have money in my pocket to come to places like this, and meet people like you.

[gotgreenmagic]

Flatterer. I'm sure you're keen to avoid the risk of having your throat cut in the night for whatever pittance you might have on your person, too.

[peektuttut]

That may have factored into the decision, yes.

[gotgreenmagic]

[She gestures for the bartender to recharge their glasses.] Heh. Can't say I've found that a problem for some time. Rumor has it I can kill a man in my sleep if I'm so inclined.

I guess that depends on what kind of death you're talking about.

[gotgreenmagic]

[If he's talking about what she thinks he's talking about then she's surprised and amused by his nerve.] I'm sure I don't know what you mean, Master Drake. Care to elaborate?

[That was about as far as his nerve stretches. :c Tim's starting to turn red.]

I - well - to die a small death...have you read Shakespeare's works?
