Barcaza: Open Spam

[Sheridan, quartermaster of The Slayer and frequent enough visitor to Barcaza to be recognized, strolled into the tavern at dusk. She'd had a hard day haggling over powder and ammunition for the girls' guns and the ship's cannons - the sort of 'haggling' where the supplier got to choose between a heavy discount and a lost finger or two - and having fulfilled her Captain's orders she felt qualified to relax a while. She sat down at the end of the bar and gestured for a drink.]

[Kirk didn't recognize her. The last time he'd gone through Barcaza had been years ago, as he had something he was looking for and said something didn't typical hang near land at all, much less pirate and lawless land.

He was down the bar from her by a couple seats when she ordered the drink, raising an eyebrow at her when it showed up.]

"Impressive drink choice."

She raised an eyebrow right back and threw back the glass in one gulp just to make a point.

"What else'm I likely to be drinking in a place like this?"

"Mead," Kirk suggested, lifting his own glass and copying her drinking habits. "Water for such a fine lady."

"Drink the water? Here?" She snorted and waved for another drink - and one for her new companion while she was at it. "Are you new?"

[captain_jtkirk]

Jim eyed the glass for a moment and then looked over at her. A second later, he hopped the two seats in between them so he could sit next to her, and yeah he brought the glass with. "It's been a few years since I came through here."

"A few years ago I'd bet the water wasn't any better." She sipped her rum a little more carefully when it came. "So what's brought you back?"

"Looking for something. What about yourself?"

[gotgreenmagic]

"Restocking and rearming before The Slayer's next outing," she said. "What are you looking for?"

[captain_jtkirk]

"The Slayer?" Look at him not answer that question right away. "Is that the ship they say is manned by an all female crew?"

[gotgreenmagic]

"It is. And they're right." She swirled the rum around her glass. "You've been paying attention since you arrived, clearly."

[captain_jtkirk]

"People talk a lot. I like to listen."

[gotgreenmagic]

"Hoping to hear about what you're looking for?"

[captain_jtkirk]

"You see anything strange in the waters?"

[Barcaza was still new to Tim, far different than the company headquarters in London, though not quite as exotic as some of the other locations he'd traveled to with the EITC. Still, there was something about the Caribbean that made him feel alive; but maybe that was the freedom of having business to attend to without a senior partner looking over his shoulder.

The tavern seemed warm and inviting, and maybe a little dangerous, but Tim didn't mind that extra thrill. He headed inside, making for the end of the bar. He didn't notice his neighbor until he'd sat, and then made himself smile to keep from staring.]

I hope this seat wasn't taken.

[She smirks.] I suppose you'll find out. [She takes a sip of her drink.] You're a little clean cut for this town, if you don't mind my saying so.

[peektuttut]

I don't mind. [He isn't shy about loving this town, and probably will continue to love it until it screws him over.] I'm here on business, and I found myself with a little extra time.

[gotgreenmagic]

Most people do, when there's good drink and good company to be had. [Yeah, she's good company and she doesn't care who knows about her grossly high opinion of herself.] And what's your business?

[peektuttut]

Trade. [Tim is perfectly willing to accept that she's good company. She looks like good company to him.] Spices from India, largely, sometimes silks. I'm sure I could find some extra, if you're interested. [This is totally a suave thing to do, right, and he has an extra suave smile for her. He has no idea what he's doing.)]

[gotgreenmagic]

[She just laughs.] I'm a woman, so my interest is easily bought with pretty things. It's your first time here, hm?

[peektuttut]

Second. [He lifts a hand to order a drink.] But I couldn't much enjoy myself, last time. [And when he gets his glass, he lifts it toward her for a toast.] To Barcaza. And pretty things.

[She just stares at him for a second.]

Don't understand sarcasm much, do you? Or the kind of woman who makes a living in these waters, for that matter. Never mind, you'll learn.

[She grabs his wrist and tilts it against her mouth, draining the glass in his hand and licking a stray drop off his inner wrist before downing her own shot.] To Barcaza.

Oh. [His face starts to fall, because that definitely went right over his head and now he feels like an idiot, but hey she's drinking his drink and sh is holding his hand. Well, wrist. But it's close enough and he actually turns red when she licks his wrist.]

I can't say I'm not looking forward to learning.

[gotgreenmagic]

That's the spirit. [She waves down a member of the bar staff to refill their glasses.] Got a name, second-timer?

[peektuttut]

Timothy Drake. [He nods his thank yous to the bartender, and takes a quick drink before she can steal his again.] And yours, madam?

[gotgreenmagic]

[She laughs out loud, taking a healthy sip of her rum.]

'Madam', good Christ. I haven't been 'madam' since the last time I got arrested. [A flash of a grin.] I'm Sheridan. You can call me Sherry though, since I like your legs.
