113 - Voice

[Backdated to a few hours after the end of port. Shego stumbled back on board after four days of almost no sleep and not much food and was not braced for a serious business talk with the Admiral at all. When she talks she sounds exhausted and...not stunned exactly, but very '.....that was something I wasn't expecting to happen today'.]

So, uh.

Regina graduated?

You should probably go tell her well done because I sure as heck didn't contribute all that much.

She's already been trapped and bitter for two years, Kirk. Nowhere to go but up.

"Your job as my ex-Warden or as my..." She shrugged. 'Boyfriend' was a word with a lot of baggage. "Whatever we are now?"

Totally different when you chose the thing that led you to be trapped and bitter.

"Mix of both with a little starship captain thrown in there."

"Yeah, well, I'll take it under advisement. Anyway, if I go home I might just wind up back here without the option of leaving whenever I - " She realized what she was saying and her tongue froze in her mouth. " - yeah."

Kirk didn't look at her when she said that, staring rather intently at his hands instead and suddenly wishing for something stronger than the champagne. Yeah, he was stuck here and that sucked but he wouldn't trade the few months he'd gotten on Enterprise to voluntarily stay here and avoid all of that.

"You're kidding yourself if you think you really have the option of leaving whenever you want when you have an Inmate anyway."

"You think? Because I really wouldn't have lost any sleep over ditching Rourke." She topped up his glass, then hers. Maybe it wasn't as strong as he would have liked but it went to the head faster.

"And I spent two years with you."

Not concurrently, and not without 'leaving' at least twice, but she didn't see fit to point out either of those things. "So you're a better person than me. D'you want a medal?"

"I'll take a star, or your cookies."

She waved vaguely at a plate on the coffee table. There were two cookies there with heart shapes picked out in pink M&Ms. "Knock yourself out."

Kirk grabbed them both, offering her one of them because she did do all of the work for them. "Where do you think he gets these?"

She took it and just looked at it. "He resurrects the dead and travels through space-time like it's no big deal and you're wondering where he sources his baked goods?"

"They're just really good. Do you think he bakes them himself?"

She'd never actually tried a graduation cookie because her own post-graduation experience had mostly involved blind shock and then an interlude of sex with Kirk and the plate had probably gotten knocked off her couch in the course of that. So she took a bite and - yeah. They were just really good.

"I kinda like to imagine he's got bigger things to worry about. Maybe he's just, like, found the best cookie place in the universe and he steps out to get them or something."
