Oh my-

Oh my gosh, is everyone okay? That was really rough for a false alarm, for a second there I thought - but I guess the Admiral's right, nothing feels different...

Is anybody hurt? You all know I'll come straight away if anybody needs any help, right?

"Don't say better like he does anything good when he comes in here," Shego said, conscious of the sarcasm but ignoring it in favour of blunt moralising.

"Sit up, okay? I'm glad you got some rest but you shouldn't lie there forever. It'll just make it worse." She picked up the pack, wincing only slightly when she twisted to reach for them, and offered if to him. "I got you some sandwiches, some juice and some vitamins. Eat."

Mozenrath did as she asked, forcing himself into a sitting position but laying his head in his hands when a dizzy spell caught him. It didn't last so long that he didn't notice the look on her face that came and went quickly. "Are you well?"

She beamed. "I'm fine. Had a thing with the Captain last night. You know how it goes." She reached behind him, arranging the pillows to best support him in the new position.

"Yeah," he said a little sourly. "Not much that either of us can do about it." With an intact right hand, no longer shorn to the bone, he rubs his temple. "I don't know how much more I can take," he said a little shakily, closing his eyes.

"Hey. Don't you talk like that." She reached out and took his hand, cupping it between hers. "Do you really think you'd be happy sinking to their level? Do you think you could take doing that?"

He looked a little guilty. "I just don't want him to hurt me anymore," he admitted quietly. "And I'm tired of being tired. It's not even just about sticking it out until it finally kills me and I'm done, Shego. He'll just bring me back."

"Well - can't you pretend? Just say what he wants, enough so he won't hurt you anymore." She rubbed his hand gently; his fingers always felt cold for the couple days after a bad night. "Hey - if he wants you to use your magic on somebody, you could do it to me!" she added, obscenely cheerful on the subject.

Mozenrath gaped at her when she suggested using his magic on her. What little he knew of magic, he worked hard to build on his own -- he didn't want talismans, or powers his warden had given him, both because the magic was evil and degenerative, but also because he hadn't achieved it on his own. He hated shortcuts. But the thought of attacking someone he trusted just to get Eric to leave him alone for a while...

He pulled his hand back, shaking his head. "No. Never. I'll never hurt you, Shego."

Shego frowned, then gave a sad little smile and hugged him gingerly.

"This is exactly what I'm talking about, Mozenrath," she murmured into his ear. "If you decide you can't take it anymore, he's not going to give you a choice. He's going to make you hurt the people you care about. He'll make you do it over and over until it stops hurting you to hurt them. You might think it'd be better to graduate, but...by then you won't be able to feel anything. Is that better?"

The wizard turned rigid when she hugged him. He'd all but utterly lost the ability to feel comfortable while being touched. He expected pain to follow regardless of who it was. "I don't know anymore," he admitted. "I just want to go home."

She felt him go still, and although she loosened her hold slightly she didn't let go, just staying close and stroking his hair and waiting, hoping he would calm down. She refused to let it go so that every bit of physical contact he experienced would come with pain. If that was going to happen then she might as well just give it up on him completely.

"I know," she said. "We all do. I'm sorry." She was silent for a moment.

"Can you tell me about home? What it was like?"

Mozenrath tried to think of home, but beyond this room he couldn't think of anything. The Marquis had been right. It really was all they had left. "I -- " He looked around. There were still things that had changed, things he had no real control over. "It's warm," he said, finally narrowing it down to something -- something he missed since the winter had come.

"It's warm," she echoed, and shifted so she was sitting alongside him on the bed, one arm around his shoulders.

"Nothing else? What were the towns like? The people?" She tousled his hair lightly. "Come on, you've got to remember somebody. Everyone ticks you off somehow."

"I'm trying," he uttered. It hurt his head to try, but he did -- only he never got past that feeling of half-remembering that one had after a night of vivid dreaming. He shook his head, holding it in his hands. "I'm trying..."

She pouted for a moment, then her brows furrowed and she twisted a little to get a proper look at his face.

"...Hey. It's okay. Did Northman do some weird vampire voodoo thing to your memories?" she asked, making a vaguely illustrative 'spooky' gesture with her free hand. "Although I guess if he did then you wouldn't - darn it."

He gave her an apologetic look. "Thanks Shego," he said, and for good measure, even though it wasn't true: "I feel a lot better."

"No, you don't," she said quietly, for the simple reason that he never did. Not really. She kissed the side of his head and rubbed his shoulder for a moment, then drew away. "Do you want me to go, or...?"

He sighed, finally relaxing some, but seeming still a little surprised by her actions. He blinked at her when she pulled back, a little dazed. "You don't have to stay if you don't want to," he murmured. "He won't come until later if he comes at all, though."

"Then I'm gonna hang out here a little bit longer," Shego said, smiling. 'A little bit longer', of course, meant 'until Kirk comes round and starts frothing with rage over the network' - which he would, he wasn't the type to be mad in private. Then she'd go. She didn't want anyone accused of sheltering her. "You can't get rid of me, Mozie."
