I'm kinda wondering at this point if the Warden of whoever did it knows who did it and just doesn't wanna admit they didn't notice their Inmate building a doomsday device.

[Kirk was going to figure out what was going on with Shego. There was something that she wasn't telling him, he was sure of it but she also didn't like telling him anything so it was like being between a rock and a hard place.

Jim knocked on her door and leaned against the nearby wall as he waited for her to open up.]

The door slid open a moment later and Shego glanced at him, stepping silently from her cabin into the hallway.

"You get discharged or did you just leave?"

"I was there for two full days, scout's honor," Kirk said, waving his hand around in a lazy type of salute but he stood up straight and started off down the hallway. "Have you been sleeping?"

"Kinda," she said, falling into step at his side. "It counts as sleep if you're lying in the dark with your eyes closed, right?"

"Only if you're not counting down the minutes as you're lying there," Kirk countered, glancing at her out of the corner of his eye. Maybe he should send her to Bones for a psych eval. This wasn't really his strong point.

"Otherwise I think it's just rest."

"Okay." So she hadn't really been sleeping or resting for longer than maybe two or three hours a night. That was okay. She was managing on that. It would even itself out in the end, it had to.

"Anything much new with you?"

"Nope. I'm feeling a lot better than the last time we spoke but otherwise..." Kirk shrugged a little bit. "I take it you're still on this not caring about anything kick?"

Her expression turned ugly for a moment and there was the briefest green spark in the palms of her hands, but then she went blank again and looked away. "Yeah. I guess I am."

Kirk hadn't been looking directly at her when her hand sparked, so he completely missed that. But he didn't miss her just... shutting down again. Fuck, he really wasn't good at psychoanalyzing people.

"Do you wanna talk to Bones? He got training as a therapist. I'm pretty sure."

"We're friends. It would be weird, doing the whole shrink bit with him. And I really don't want to lie down on a couch for anybody." She tucked her hands in her pockets. "It'll get better by itself. It did last time."

"I'm not an expert but I think that just ignoring it until it goes away is horribly unhealthy," Kirk answered, giving her a look for a few moments. "You don't have any idea of what's causing it?"

"If I did, would it matter? Look where we are, Cap'n. It's not like I could do anything much to avoid it."

"If you knew what it was, I think it would make it a lot easier. Unless you're actually having this anxiety attack over the Barge itself. Are you? Is it the boat or is it the people?"

"It's you," she said flatly.

Kirk stopped walking and turned to face her because of that, frowning at her. "Why me?"

"Because - " She clenched her teeth for a moment. "It's not you you, okay? I know you haven't done anything, I know it's not your fault, but - look, I punched you the other week because I thought the Barge was having a do-over and I may have overreacted a little bit. So - there it is."

"Oh." Jim stared at her for a moment before shifting his gaze to the wall over her shoulder as he thought. So this was his fault because she thought that the Barge was having the same flood over again and the other Kirk had really fucked her over.

Right.

He had no idea how to fix that, except to make a mental note to always shave no matter what. "I'm sorry," Kirk said finally as his gaze slid back to her. "I don't-- I shouldn't have let you see me like that."

She evaded eye contact. "How'd you get like that anyway? A 'bad reaction' - what exactly were you smoking?"

He hesitated for a moment before deciding to tell her. "I drank something I shouldn't have and it had addictive qualities to it. It didn't really clear up until... well, I died."

Shego stared at him for a second.

"Well. You're an idiot."

Kirk snorted. "That does seem to be the popular opinion," he agreed. "Next time, I'm going to ask before anything goes in my mouth."

"Great. You're learning at twenty-six what most people have got figured out by the time they're five."

"Better late than never, right?" Kirk asked, giving her a tiny smile. "Does that help you at all? I can go into great horrible detail about what hallucinating's like if you want."

She rolled her eyes. "Tempting, really tempting, but I think I'll have to take a rain check on that. Appreciate the offer, though, really."

"Next time you need something to make fun of me for," Kirk agreed. "How's your appetite feeling?"
