[The video feed flickers to life when Shego smacks her communicator a couple times by mistake, groping along the side of her nightstand for a chirping alarm clock. She switches off the alarm, sits up and runs both hands through her hair - Shego's bed-hair is a terrifying thing to behold, it looks like there's twice as much of it as usual.

She swings her legs over the side of the bed and then, finally, notices the communicator. She leans in for a closer look, looking tired and bewildered.]

Doctor D, the heck is -

[There's a flicker of recognition in her face, and then her expression becomes completely unreadable.]

No.

Oh no no no.

No no no no no NO NO--

[The screen fills with green energy, cracks, then goes blank.]

"Drop dead. Why didn't you just run off back to the Enterprise while you had an excuse?"

"Because your shit was still here. I figured you were coming back." Kirk set his hands on his hips and stared her down. "How was home?"

"I bet my file's been updated. Go read for yourself," she said blandly. She grabbed a hairbrush off what was left of her dresser and turned away from Kirk, sweeping it through her hair with minor effort.

"How many times do I have to tell you that if I don't hear it from you then I don't hear it at all?" Jim shot back at her. Also, he's sporting a black eye from when Shinzon socked him earlier, if she ever looks directly at him.

She doesn't. Not yet. There's a lot of hair here that needs fixing, okay.

"Well then, I guess you don't get to hear it. So sorry."

Sorry, Jim, you never get to find out about how she was Kim's best friend for two weeks, or how she almost quit her job to hook up with the CEO of a multinational retail chain, or how she'd started getting so sick of Drakken that she'd just walk out on him mid-scheme. Or how she'd spent half her time in jail.

At least he's graduating to being called Jim in this narrative?

"Okay then I'll just tell you what you missed," Jim replied without missing a beat. "There was a flood. Moz trashed his immediate surroundings when he found out. I wrote about you in my diary."

"In your diary. Sure you did. What next, you gonna take up painting your toenails? Start worrying about whether your haircut flatters your face?"

She turned to him and immediately flexed an eyebrow.

"You missed the part where you got beat up there, slick."

"I said there was a flood." Jim countered. "If you had opened the door, you would've seen it before now anyway."

"Don't really see how that's relevant. So, who gave you the shiner?"

"I spent all weekend thinking that Shinzon was my best friend. So he socked me."

She laughed unpleasantly, swept the brush through her hair a few more times and then tossed it onto the bed, went over to her closet and slid the door open. There were five of her green-and-black catsuits folded up in there, alongside her regular clothes and more shoes than you'd expect from someone who tends to live in just the one outfit.

"I'd say I was sorry I missed it, if that didn't indicate any kind of regret over not being here."

"Will you at least tell me how long you were gone?"

Shego considered saying no just for the sake of pissing him off, then decided she might as well underline why she was going to need a little bit of time to adjust to being back in the unhappiest place on Earth.

"Six months. Ish. And not a whole lot happened that I wanna tell you about." She gestured in his vague direction, her back turned. "Would you mind turning around or closing your eyes or - something?"

Kirk looked less than thrilled to hear that but only because he wasn't sure how much she'd changed, if it was for better or worse in that time. "I've slept with you twice and you don't want me to see your back?" he commented sarcastically but he still turned around to face the ruined door anyway. "I'm not looking."

"You haven't slept with me. You've slept with Amnesia Me and Whacked-Out Flood Lust Me. Classic Me has a problem with you watching her change." She stripped out of her pyjamas and started getting dressed. "So I was gone for all of, what, a week? Less?"

"All three of you still look the same." He probably wouldn't have watched her change anyway, if she hadn't said anything. "You were gone all of like four days. Maybe five. I'm not entirely sure because of the flood."

"Soooo what, your newfound platonic appreciation for Shinzon affected your perception of time? You must've got it bad." She zipped the front of her suit and fastened her belt. "Did Mozenrath actually trash something or are you just exaggerating a minor hissy fit or what?"

"I wasn't aware that his hissy fits were any different than his ability to smash things," Kirk answered, shrugging a little bit. "Maybe you should make sure he knows you haven't abandoned him completely."

"Uh-huh, and maybe he should consider the fact that we hadn't had a civilized conversation in the month before I left and then try to work out why I should care."

"It's called having a friend, Shego. Last I checked, a fight doesn't end your friendship unless you're five years old."

"And what if it's a series of fights that keep underlining the fact that your friend is a sexist, immature little jerk who can't take a joke?" Yeah, her time back home actually made her less tolerant of bitchy manchildren.

Kirk wasn't aware that she had a tolerance for them in the first place. "Because you're without faults."

It's either that or she just has a bottomless well of patience for other people with equally ridiculous skintones. "Ha ha ha. I can deal with being on my own, okay? I don't go in for mindless destruction when my friends leave."

"What do you do when they leave then?" Yeah, he's back to implying that she doesn't care.

She's noticed. "Does it matter? There's nothing I might do that'll make you believe I'm not some unfeeling monster."
